CPA Goals
The principle aims of the Canadian Poetry Association are to promote the reading, writing, publishing,
and preservation of poetry in Canada through the individual efforts of its members; to promote
communication among poets, publishers, and the general public; to encourage leadership and
participation from members, and to encourage the formation and development of autonomous local
chapters and/or provincial representatives.
Autonomous chapters have been active in many communities throughout Canada, coast to coast from
the Maritimes to British Columbia, and in such centers in between as Metropolitan Toronto and
Southwestern Ontario. The National Head Office moved from Toronto to Moncton, New Brunswick. The
Canadian Poetry Association aims also to promote and encourage all forms and styles of poetry; to
promote the establishment and maintenance of poetry libraries and archives in educational institutions
across Canada; and through its newsletter Poemata to develop an international connection for
Canadian poets.
